Spring born calves are often weaned in the fall and supplemented through winter at a low rate of gain, but that gain may be too slow. A cow-calf specialist discusses the economical benefits and downfalls of supplementing for weight gain.
Karla Wilke adds the study suggests a winter gain of 1.5 pounds per day is most likely to result in added body weight that is maintained.
