Rabies cases are climbing in Minnesota, causing a warning to livestock

Public health officials in Minnesota are seeing a rise in rabies cases this year, and they have a warning to anyone with livestock.

They are asking owners to keep a close watch on livestock and pets. Rabies cases are up 30 percent this year in the state, with 32 confirmed cases, and six infections in cattle. Other states are reporting cases including Montana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

The CDC says more than 90 percent of the cases start with wild animals, like bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes. 60,000 Americans are treated each year for exposure.
