Representative Costa: Farm Bill provision to override Prop-12 unlikely

Despite widespread concern from the pork industry on the Supreme Court’s upholding of California’s Prop-12. One lawmaker says that any chance of using the Farm Bill to find a workaround will not happen.

California Congressman Jim Costa says that it is unlikely a provision can be added like House Ag Chair Glenn Thompson wants.
He calls Thompson’s proposal a “nice gesture” but warns that any measure will not stick in the Senate.

Navigating legislation like this through the House Ag Committee has been a challenge in the past, but Thompson believes they have a shot now that the Supreme Court has settled the case.
