Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Trump at the State of the Union Tuesday night.

The award is the highest honor an American civilian can receive.

The president called Limbaugh, who recently announced he had been diagnosed with lung cancer, the “greatest fighter and winner that you will ever meet.”

Limbaugh sat next to first lady Melania Trump and became visibly emotional when it was announced he was receiving the award. Melania was the one who placed the gold medal around Limbaugh’s next.

President Trump said the award was given to Limbaugh for his decades of tireless devotion to the country and the millions of people he inspires daily.
