Jesse Wright, the 2012 saddle bronc riding world champ, will miss some time after undergoing surgery on his right knee.

“I landed back down on my stirrup and my knee hyperextended and popped,” Wright told ProRodeo.com.. “I could’ve made the whistle, but it was hurting so bad I jumped off. I didn’t tear my ACL or MCL, which is a plus. I tore my meniscus. It could’ve been a lot worse.”

The injury came while he was riding Frontier Rodeo’s Big Rocket in Spanish Fork on July 24, six days later he underwent surgery.

Wright, who finished 11th in the World Standings last year, is currently No. 26 with $19,144.

He is aiming for an end of August return.

“This is just part of rodeo,” he said.
