USDA has launched a new online resource offering prevention and detection information for producers. Officials say it consolidates APHIS, ARS, and interagency updates into one portal.
The Department’s efforts to combat New World Screwworm don’tstop there: the recent opening of a new sterile fly facility in Mexico will allow USDA to reach infected hotspots faster. Dudley Hoskins, Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs for USDA, emphasized the strategic importance of the new sterile fly dispersal facility in Mexico, especially since two cases of the pest were detected in late September and early Octoberin Nuevo León. USDA says those cases are no longer active, and no new detections have been reported in the area.
