Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack, has announced his nomination for the second in command at USDA.
It is Xochitl Torres Small, the current Under Secretary of Rural Affairs. If approved by the Senate, Torres Small would be promoted to Deputy Secretary and replace Jewel Bronaugh.
Secretary Vilsack says, “Torres Small is the granddaughter of migrant farm workers and represents the heart and soul of rural communities.”
Until the Senate confirms her, APHIS Administrator, Kevin Shea, will serve as Acting Deputy Secretary.
