New Mexico Senator Ben Ray Lujan filed a bill, The Children’s Act for Responsible Employment in Agriculture, looking to change age and work hour standards for children working in agriculture.
It would greatly expand penalties for child labor violations from $11,000 to $151,380 and injuries from $50,000 to $690,000. It would also keep current family farm and 4-H, educational, and vocational training exemptions, along with family farm exceptions.
