Sen. Ron Wyden is pushing for Doug McKalip’s Senate confirmation

Senator Ron Wyden says Doug McKalip is a good fit for farmers and should be confirmed as Chief Trade Negotiator.

Senator Ron Wyden, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, is calling on his colleagues to confirm Doug McKalip to the Chief Ag Negotiator position.

The Committee voted last week in favor of McKalip, which came after weeks of hearings where he fielded questions from both sides of the aisle. So far, he has support form both parties.

Senator Wyden says McKalip has the background needed to help his home state of Oregon get its products to the global market.

“We do a lot of things well in Oregon. What we do especially well is we grow things; for example, potatoes and other agricultural products. So, this is an extremely important position and Mr. McKalip is certainly qualified for this job,” Sen. Wyden said.

He adds that if confirmed, McKalip would lead efforts to promote affordable, abundant food supplies at home and abroad.

His nomination still needs approval from the full Senate.
