Senate approves partial government spending bill

A new budget for USDA has been signed into law.

With just hours to go, the Senate approved the partial government spending plan, removing the weeks-long uncertainty for the U.S. ag industry.

The $459 billion bill funds several important federal agencies, including USDA. Some highlights include resources to fully fund the WIC program, no changes to SNAP benefits, and more than $6 billion for the FDA. It also boosts ag research by $44 million, bringing the total spending to $1.79 billion.
