Senate report shows trade aid payments unevenly distributed

A group of Senate Democrats criticize the Trump administration’s trade aid program.

The report, released by Senators Debbie Stabenow and Chuck Schumer, shows trade aid payments have been distributed unevenly. They say the program benefits some regions over others. The Senators highlight 95% of the top payment rates going to southern farmers and millions of dollars in purchase contracts going to JBS, a Brazilian owned company.

They urge Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to improve the program to better support small farmers. Trump administration officials have yet to respond.
