Senators call for FDA reversal for sanitizer production

Senators call out the Food and Drug Administration for a guideline reversal that has been a significant expense to some biofuel manufacturers.

In March, the FDA agreed to allow ethanol to be used for sanitizer production, as long as certain purity standards were met. However, last month the FDA reversed that decision, and called on biofuel producers to adherer to additional standards.

In a letter to the FDA Commissioner, Iowa Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley urge the agency to clarify its temporary policy, noting biofuel companies had already made significant investments for sanitizer production, before the rules were changed again.
