Skyrocketing hay prices are breaking records

Following a summer of drought and a massive snow and cold snap in January, we need to check on hay prices.

The manager of an Iowa hay auction tells DTN hay prices are skyrocketing right now. His auction in Dyersville is breaking 2013 records with hay going for $250-300 dollars per ton.

He says that many farmers would rather plant corn than forage crops, limiting an already tight supply due to weather. He also says that both high and low-quality hay are bringing in top dollar right now.
