Some lawmakers want Congress to pass emergency relief for Hurricane Helene victims

Lawmakers have returned to their districts ahead of the election, but the Senate Ag Committee Chair says Congress should consider passing emergency relief in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Senator Debbie Stabenow says the storm dealt a horrible blow to farmers, ranchers, and rural communities as harvest gets underway. There are reports of damage to cotton and peanut crops, pecans, poultry, and timber. Some rural and mountainous areas of North Carolina are still impassable.

President Biden says he will visit Raleigh tomorrow to meet with FEMA, then take an aerial tour of the damage.
