Some Problems But Relatively Lush: Pasture and rangeland conditions are holding steady in late summer

While most livestock producers would love to see more than half of their grazing land in good to excellent conditions at this point in the season, few have that luxury.

USDA numbers show pasture and rangeland conditions are holding steady at only 35% good to excellent nationally.
The poor to very poor category has risen 1%, with western states specifically seeing a decline.

According to USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey, “We do see some increasing problems across the High Plains extending into parts of the west where it has been rather hot and dry recently. On the flip side, relatively lush conditions continue to grace the Midwest. We have a couple of states even this late in the summer, still over 70% good to excellent.”

Among those states with great-looking pastures are Minnesota and Missouri.
