A South Carolina dog was treated like a hero this weekend after saving its owner from a house fire in October.

Officials say the dog, Curly, woke up his owner Brian Rand in the midst of the blaze which gave them both enough time to escape.

Officials and first responders were both on hand to celebrate Curly’s loyalty. Rand, a Vietnam veteran, lost most of his belongings in the fire.

“It made a big difference too, with losing the house, to still have Curly. I mean, that’s, you know, why I’m still more upbeat. I got Curly, we can make it,” Rand told WSPA.
