South Dakota’s Governor Kristi Noem defended South Dakota’s new anti-drug campaign after jokes were made online about the slogan.
As part of the $1.4 million initiative to combat meth use in the state, South Dakota launched a campaign on Monday with the tagline “Meth. We’re on it.” and featured videos and posters of people throughout South Dakota saying “Meth. I’m on it.” or “I’m on meth.”
“We are committed to tackling this problem from all sides. The state is providing increased resources and support for those who are in need, as well as those who want to advocate for meth’s demise in their communities,” the campaign states.
The website that users were directed to find resources and information about the anti-meth campaign was onmeth.com.
“The meth epidemic is a problem for your parents, your children… for YOU. Let’s get on it and get it OUT of South Dakota,” Noem tweeted Monday night.
“Meth. It’s a problem and it needs to be addressed. Combating it needs to be a dinner table conversation. We need everyone on it. We’re starting the conversation - It. Is. Working,” she said in a follow up.
