Soy Transportation Coalition on Buttigieg’s nomination for Transportation Secretary

Former Mayor Pete Buttigieg has been nominated to serve as the next Secretary of Transportation. It is a welcomed move for many along the ag supply chain, given his background in the Midwest and travels throughout rural states.

Mike Steenhook, the Executive Director of the Soy Transportation Coalition, speaks with RFD-TV’s Janet Adkison on what this means for the ag sector and his hopes for the new administration as a whole.

“What’s really critical for us and in agriculture, is to make sure that anyone in leadership who advocates and promotes our transportation strategy... that, that individual doesn’t just focus on the urban needs of American but also on the rural needs of America,” Steenhook states. “While former Mayor Buttigieg doesn’t have a wide spread portfolio when it comes to infrastructure, the fact that he is from the Midwest and... he traveled extensively through rural America... so, we believe he’s got a real understanding that you have to have that balanced perspective...”
