State of broadband In Rural America
Experts say that developing more accurate broadband maps ensures federal dollars are spent in rural areas that need the most assistance.
Joanne Gregorich, Andrew Telephone Company GM, says that the FCC maps they look a to see what areas need service provided to need to be looked over and verified.
Some reports found the Federal Communications Commission may have underestimated the number of Americans with high-speed internet by 20 million people.
Some lawmakers are pushing to accelerate rural broadband funds. In a letter to the FCC, Mississippi Senator, Roger Wicker wants to speed up the timeline under the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund.
The FCC plans to hold a reverse auction to find contractors for the project in October. As we have previously reported, the 10 year initiative will distribute $20 billion dollars to expand high-speed internet service.
