States should be proactive when it comes to autonomous farm machinery policies, according to a specialist

A farm management specialist says states need to be more proactive when it comes to policies surrounding autonomous farm machinery.

University of Kentucky Specialist, Jordan Shockley says right now, there is not a federal policy. California is the only state so far with regulations on autonomous vehicles such as speed and supervision.

Shockley says he is concerned California’s laws could set precedent and limit what other technologies could come later down the line. He wants states to be more proactive and to think about policies that will help drive the industry forward.
