The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said on Thursday that glyphosate, the key ingredient in Bayer’s Roundup and a widely used weed killer, does not cause cancer.
The conclusion was a reaffirmation of the agency’s stance.
“EPA has concluded that there are no risks of concern to human health when glyphosate is used according to the label and that it is not a carcinogen,” the agency said.
Glyphosate was classified as “probably carcinogenic” to humans by the World Health Organization in 2015.
Three juries have previously found Bayer responsible for causing cancer. The company will appeal those decisions.
