This February, in honor of Black History Month, 4-H is highlighting alumni that celebrate innovation, diversity, and leadership. This interview is a part of a series of blogs supporting 4-H’s Community Impact program emphasizing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion – an effort sponsored by Nationwide®.

4-H President and CEO, Jennifer Sirangelo, interviewed Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Avery Williamson about his passion for his family farm and how 4-H helped shape who he is today.

Williamson credits 4-H with giving him the skills to support his passion in farming as well as help in business. He says his dad used to say that the hard work he did on the farm made him tough for football. After learning a fellow NFL player also owned a family farm, he decided to invest in his family’s land and upgrade equipment.
