The ranking member of the Senate Ag Committee is sounding a warning about massive cuts to farm programs. It all centers around the Senate’s version of the $2 trillion dollar COVID package.
Sen. John Boozman says that because the bill must go through the reconciliation process, it will likely trigger the ‘pay-as-you-go” rule. If that happens, he says that all farm programs could be zeroed out over the next five years.
Debate could begin today and we are still waiting to see the full text of the legislation, but here are some provisions we know the Senate’s version will contain:
Extend SNAP benefits and boost other nutritional programs
Individual stimulus payments of $1,400 dollars. However, the Senate version will likely make people ineligible if they make more than $80,000 dollars a year.
- As for the derecho amendment, which Senator Grassley hoped to restore, we are still waiting to see where those negotiations stand.
