The CDC is urging livestock workers to get vaccinated for seasonal flu

The Agency will spend $5 million on vaccines for livestock workers this fall.

More than 170 U.S. dairies have confirmed cases of High Path Avian Flu in cattle since March, and 13 workers have also contracted the virus. While symptoms have been mild, the CDC is urging livestock workers to get vaccinated for the seasonal flu this year.

The Agency will spend $5 million on vaccines for livestock workers this fall, and it will spend another $5 million in states with outbreaks to train farm workers.

The Agency says flu vaccinations could help reduce the risk of HPAI becoming more serious during flu season, but it admits the standard flu vaccine will not protect farm workers from getting HPAI.
