USDA is one step closer to having a second in command as the Senate takes the final steps to advance the nomination of Xochitl Torres Small.
She currently serves as the Under Secretary for Rural Development. Her nomination has not faced any public opposition, and there has been a bipartisan push to get her approved.
Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says Torres Small represents the heart and soul of rural communities and her expertise will further USDA’s mission to advance equity and opportunity.
Last night, the Senate advanced the nomination through a procedural vote, paving the way for a vote later today.
