The Ottawa Group wants the WTO to better their COVID response

Nearly a dozen countries are pushing the World Trade Organization for a better global response to the COVID-19 pandemic and future ones.

They will make the request at the WTO’s General Counsel Meeting tomorrow and Thursday.

The Ottawa Group is made up of Canada, the European Union, and eleven other nations.

Among their list of actions are removing unnecessary export restrictions, not imposing new ones during a pandemic, and making sure trade measures are consistent with WTO obligations.

The group says that taking these steps will make sure medical goods get to countries around the world.
