The impacts of a scorching summer are being felt across the ag industry.
State officials in Iowa say that hundreds of cattle died from extreme heat in late July alone. The state tells Reuters it received a report on July 31st to dispose of 370 carcasses in western Iowa.
Nebraska and Kansas also reported calls for cattle disposal.
These losses are further shrinking the U.S. cattle herd, already the smallest in decades.
Producers who suffered losses can contact USDA about the Livestock Indemnity Program.
