In the midst of pandemic disruption, the nation’s ag sector got a win with today’s implementation of the USMCA. It is a welcomed move for the U.S. dairy producers looking to increase export opportunities with our North American neighbors.
RFD-TV’s Janet Adkison speaks with Tom Vilsack, the CEO and president of the U.S. Dairy Export Council, on the value of this agreement for U.S. dairy.
“I say there are three basic highlights. First on the Canadian side, an increase in market access... would allow us greater flexibility in terms of promotion and marketing our products... Second opportunity, over the next six months, Canada is going to replace the Class 6 and Class 7 pricing system they have for powder, which should end the distortion of the powder market that Canada created...The third benefit, I think from the agreement, is the geographic indication side letter,” Vilsack said.
