Three of our favorite Hank Williams Jr. songs

Randall Hank Williams, better known by his professional name Hank Williams Jr. or Bocephus, is the son of country music legend and icon Hank Williams.

Hank Jr. was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on May 26, 1949. His career has seen the same success as his father’s, and his sound perfectly blends blues, country, and southern rock!

In celebration of his birthday, here are three of our favorite songs.

1. “Family Tradition”

You could say that the Williams family has a long family tradition of being musically talented— from Hank Sr. to Jr, and now Hank Williams III (Hank Jr.'s son). Released in 1979, “Family Tradition” was the title track for his album and peaked at no. 4 on the charts. It is one of his best-known songs and a great one to sing along to.

2. “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight”

This 1984 hit could be the anthem to many a young man. It even spent time as the theme song for Monday Night Football. Its music video won “Music Video of the Year” for both the CMAs and ACMs. The song was so good that it also had a sequel: “All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down).”

3. “A Country Boy Can Survive”

“A Country Boy Can Survive” is the anthem for those who prefer the sticks over city lights. This 1982 song hit no. 2 on the charts and is one of his best-known songs. After 9/11, Hank rewrote the song titled “America Will Survive.”
