The United States Army warned Tuesday that “a number of fraudulent text messages informing individuals they have been selected for a military draft have circulated throughout the country this week.”

The U.S. Army said it received multiple calls and emails about the fake texts and wanted Americans to understand that these texts were false and did not come from Army personnel.

The U.S. Army also reminded the public that the draft has not been in effect since 1973 and that Congress and the President would need to enact official legislation to authorize a military draft.
