Trade talks are underway between the United States and India for a possible limited trade agreement. Over the last few months there has been a regular and intensive back-and-forth between the two nations.
According to Nisha Biswal from the U.S.-India Business Council the issues negotiators are facing including the introduction of new tariffs.
However, Biswal believes progress has been made by both sides.
“We’re still hopeful that some kind of agreement could be reached but we do recognize and acknowledge that both governments have been indicating that it is unlikely at this juncture,” she said.
Despite the challenges, both governments have said bilateral negotiations are a priority.
Biswal says any agreement between the countries will be complicated and will take time.
President Trump will visit India on Monday and Tuesday.
