U.S.'s power grid needs an update

Improving the power grid was the hot topic at a Senate hearing over renewable energy sources.

Experts say that the country is making great progress in generating power from solar and wind, but transmission to the power grid needs some help.

Minnesota’s Public Utilities Commission said that most of the nation’s transmission lines were installed during the 1950s and 60s, and are far past their due date. “Making the nation more vulnerable to grid outages and national security threats,” according to Katie Sieben.

Experts hope the infrastructure bill will include power grid updates and incentives to develop renewable energy production systems.
