Update on Meat Plants

The Smithfield Foods Sioux Falls location looks to reopen. Gov. Kristi Noem, of South Dakota, stated, “They have some mitigation measures to put in place, but I think in a matter of days it could be open, as long as everyone continues to work together and get it done.”

Another Smithfield facility is Crete, Nebraska closes for two weeks. This comes after nearly 50 employees test positive for COVID-19. The plant normally processes 10 thousand hogs a day.

A Central Valley Meat facility in California has several employees test positive for the virus, but will still remain open, at this time.
