As the coronavirus continues to hinder processing plants’ operation, reports state that the amount of red meat inspected has fallen 7 percent from the week before. The slaughter rate for cattle is also down 22 percent from last year.
State governments are working with these plants to help provide protective gear. Companies like Hormel, JBS, and Tyson are cutting shifts and shutting down plants to help with worker safety. Some Tyson and National Beef plants have reopened after idling back production.
