Updates on the packing industry

The coronavirus continues to take a toll on meat packing plants across the United States.

Iowa reports outbreaks at two Perdue Farms locations in Sioux Center and Sioux City. The state calls it an outbreak when 10 percent of workers are infected. Large scale testing is taking place at a Tyson Foods in Storm Lake and employee at the Waterlooo Tyson location has died.

In Nebraska one quarter of all cases are tied to meat plant workers. Infections are increasing at Costco’s Lincoln Premium Poultry plant Fremont.

Two plants in Austin, Minnesota report rising cases: Quality Pork Processors and Hormel Foods.

The IDA-Beef slaughterhouse in Burley, Idaho is closed due to staffing shortages. They will reopen on Monday.
