NASHVILLE, Tenn (RFD-TV) The United States has launched World Trade Organization complaints against several allies. The disputes target China, the European Union, Canada, Mexico and Turkey for responding to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum. The United States Trade Representative says the American duties are justified under international trading rules, but the allies’ retaliatory taxes are not. The USTR urges trade partners to work constructively with the White House to address overcapacity in both the steel and aluminum industries.
While the Trump Administration moves against China and the European Union, the two strengthen trade relationships at an annual summit. Bloomberg reports both sides made a commitment to discuss reform at the World Trade Organization, made progress on an investment treaty and pledged to partner on enforcing the Paris accord on climate change. The E.U. also shared its hopes for the U.S. and China to come to an agreement and end the current trade war.
