USDA extends pork production line speed program before its expiration date

After several lawmakers petitioned USDA, the Department is now extending an expiring pork production line speed program. USDA will extend it until November 30th.

Under the trial, approved processors are operating at increased line speeds while data is collected to measure worker impact. It aims to prevent small and medium-sized hog farmers from feeling upstream impacts and protect consumers from spending too much money on pork.

The National Pork Producers Council applauds the Department’s decision saying the extension will allow USDA to further study the data and determine the next steps.
