The pandemic has created a crop of new farmers joining the ag sector. The USDA is now highlighting how it can help those new to farming with a number of resources.
USDA NRCS’s Carissa Stein speaks with RFD-TV’s own Christina Loren on how the agency can help small scale operations, how they define a beginning producers, and what special programs they offer. “If you have been farming less then 10 years, then you are considered a beginning farmer or rancher, with the USDA,” she notes. “About 27 percent identify as new farmers... I suspect that it has risen since the interest and COVID-19.”
