53 projects across the country will be getting millions of dollars in the form of conservation grants. USDA says the program addresses several key areas.
“The conservation innovation grants program, it’s a competitive program that NRCS offers to really support the development of new tools, new approaches and practices and up and up-and-coming technologies to further our natural resource conservation on private lands. So we’re looking for creative problem-solving and innovation. So, the CID partners really look at addressing our water quality, water quantity, air quality, soil health, and wildlife habitat challenges, and at the same time, trying to improve ag operations,” said Karen Woodrich.
USDA will spend $90 million in total for the program. Around $70 million will go toward on-farm trials, with the remainder of other projects. Since the program began, they have spent more than half a billion dollars on nearly 1,000 projects nationwide.
