USDA will spend nearly $3 billion to support American producers, school meal providers, and emergency food operations.
Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack announced $1.3 billion from his department’s Commodity Credit Corporation will be used for school meal programs.
Another $1 billion will be spent for states to order commodities from USDA vendors for places like food banks and community kitchens, and $400 million will be spent on grants supporting domestic fertilizer production capacity in an effort to lower producer costs.
