USDA Launches Push to Hire More Veterans

The “100 Hires in 100 Days” initiative has already drawn more than 1,000 applicants.

NAVARRE, Fla. (RFD News) — USDA is expanding efforts to recruit veterans and military families into careers with the department.

USDA Military Spouse and Veteran Program Manager Christine Tomkus joined us on Friday’s Market Day Report to discuss the effort, including an expanded partnership with the Department of War’s SkillBridge program and the new “100 Hires in 100 Days” initiative.

Tomkus said USDA has received more than 600 emails and over 1,000 applicants since the initiative began, with some participants already being placed into positions. SkillBridge also offers transitioning service members internships of up to 180 days.

USDA is also working to connect veterans with farming and ranching opportunities through Farm Service Agency offices and its military veteran agricultural liaison.
