The USDA launches a beef market investigation in the wake of the Kansas beef plant fire.
Secretary Perdue says USDA’s packers and stockyards division will look into recent beef pricing margins. They’ll determine if there are any unfair practices. If any are detected USDA will take quick enforcement action.
The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association reacts; president Jennifer Houston says this action,
”...demonstrates the government’s understanding of the extreme strain placed on the cattle industry by the plant fire in Holcomb, Kansas.”
She also says it, “adds transparency that will help build confidence in the markets among cattlemen and women.”
