USDA’s new study on agriculture and transportation

A brand new report shows just how closely transportation and ag are related.

The study shows agriculture producers are the single largest users of freight services. It probably comes to no surprise, the biggest mode of transportation is truck-- 69 percent.

In fact, nearly every ag freight trip involves at least one truck component.

The USDA study found $2.5 trillion dollars of ag products are moved through the U.S. freight network every year. That is three-billion tons.

What is also interesting to note, the data was compiled before the pandemic, but it was analyzed during it and that had a huge impact on ag freight. Researchers note the long-term impacts of the pandemic on agriculture and freight are hard to predict.
