MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is asking hunters to report the different types of wildlife they spotted in the woods during the rifle deer hunting season.
The survey is like a diary in which hunters record how many hours they hunted and how many deer, moose, bears, or other wildlife they saw on each day.
This year’s 16-day rifle season ran from Nov. 16 to Dec. 1.
The information provided by hunters will help the department evaluate how hunting pressure and the number animals varies throughout the season and around the state.
Deer Project Leader Nick Fortin says the information from this survey is critically important for the management of deer and other wildlife in Vermont.
