Walmart has recalled sliced apples, grapes, mangos, pineapples and cantaloupe from Country Fresh because of listeria concerns.
The recall was issued on Oct. 2, 2020 as precautionary measure after a recent FDA inspection. Listeria can cause sometimes fatal infections in children, the elderly and those with weak immune systems. Most healthy people experience short-term, flu-like symptoms.
The recall impacts stores in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas and have a best used by date between Oct. 3, 2020 and Oct. 11, 2020.
So far, there have been no illnesses reported.
“Country Fresh takes food safety matters very seriously, stringently follows all mandated regulations and implements preventive measures designed to minimize potential risks,” the company said in a statement. “Country Fresh is working in close coordination with FDA in its continuing investigation to resolve the matter promptly and deeply regrets the inconvenience to our consumers and customers.”
