Potato farmers in Washington state are giving away 200,000 pound of potatoes at the Tacoma Dome Thursday as part of an initiative 1 million pounds of potatoes into the hands of people in need.
The potato industry has been hit hard because much of the sales from Washington’s farmers to go to restaurants, which are closed or cutting back on service amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Our farmers and their families recognize that they are not the only ones suffering financially, and they have the potatoes in their storage sheds that can feed so many,” wrote some of the state’s potato farmers in a release.
The Washington Potato Growers Commission is not going unnoticed for its service to the public. A GoFundMe from the farmers has received more than $34,000. You can donate here.
