We could be waiting a while before we see a resolution to Mexico’s ban on GM corn

It could be months before there is a resolution to Mexico’s ban on biotech corn.

Lawmakers have been calling for a formal dispute with the USMCA over Mexico’s ban, and even if that paperwork was filed in the near future, it could take more than 150 days for a final decision, meaning the ag sector will likely have to wait until the new year for answers.

Analysts with the Ohio State University say if the panel sides with the U.S., Mexico would then have the option of keeping the ban in place while accepting any sanctions the U.S. could place on them.
