As reported by BrownfieldAgNews, the EPA is taking the next steps toward registering crop protection tools for hemp for use during the 2020 growing season. The agency has received 10 pesticide applications to expand their use on hemp.
EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler says this is process should help bring hemp farmers and researchers increased regulatory clarity in time for the next growing season.
Kentucky Representative James Comer says getting these approvals prior to the next growing season provides significant help to farmer.
The 30-day public comment period is now open and once the comments are received, the EPA anticipates making any final decisions before the end of 2019.
The announcement was made at a University of Kentucky hemp field day.
