What are the biggest changes we’ve seen in the farmland market?

The farmland market is ever-changing but the last several years have had a big impact on demand, purchasing windows, and how those purchases are being made.

Paul Schadegg, senior vice president of real estate operations at Farmers National Company, recently sat down with Agri-Talk and says more people are buying land throughout the year rather than at set times, and also, more people are buying during the growing season. The pandemic changed the way purchases could be made, allowing sales to happen from the comfort of the cab and the push for more online auctions.

Schadegg says while there is still momentum in land sales, it appears to be slowing. He is confident, however, that stability in the commodity markets will help maintain land values.
