Wheat Industry Rail Shippers welcome new process for rail rate disputes

New rulings by the U.S. Surface Transportation Board could benefit ag shippers by streamlining the process for rail rate disputes, by creating the Final Offer Rate Review (FORR).

This is especially good news for wheat producers as hauling rates for them are often higher than other crops. The U.S. Wheat Associates Transportation Working Group says it is pleased with the new procedures.

“These rulings are a welcome sign that rail customers, like wheat farmers, are being heard. The voluntary arbitration program and the FORR process are intended to help give smaller shippers the greater ability to challenge rail rates,” Chairman Charlie Vogel.
